Are You the Trustee? How Do You Know?

[Music] Hi this is Keith Davidson from Albertson and Davidson in this video I'm discussing how do you know if you're a trustee that can be a tricky question it actually is a little bit trickier than you might think the problem is is that Trust documents are not publicly recorded you can't go down to the county recorders office or the courthouse to find somebody's trust their private documents the only way that you would know if you're a trustee is if the person who created the trust told you that you were a trustee before they passed away or they gave you a copy of the trust while they were still alive then you would know that you're a successor trustee or if you're contacted by one of the beneficiaries after somebody dies that you would find out that your successor trustee or if you're contacted by the trust lawyer which doesn't typically Accor occur but it could that would be how you would find out that your trustee but if nobody tells you you're a trustee you're not going to know and so you either have to be told and given a copy of the document or you may never know that you're a trustee in which case you may not act maybe somebody else will act as trustee which isn't the worst thing in the world because being a trustee can be a real pain but that's the subject of a different video albertson and Davidson is here to help you fight for your inheritance check out Alba law comm for our complete library of helpful legal videos and articles from your favorite California trusts and we'll litigation law firm Albertson and Davidson LLP.
